Roosevelt Hosts Fall Harvest Dinner

Binghamton students got a taste of the spoils of their hard work recently.
Roosevelt Elementary School hosted its 5th annual Fall Harvest Dinner last week.
The free community dinner featured vegetables grown in the school garden by students in the Roosevelt Roots Garden Club.
The menu featured vegetarian options such as butternut bisque and kale lasagna.

Health Initiatives Manager for the United Way Kimberly Schwartz says this event serves as great way to get kids to experiment with healthier food options.

"It's really important that kids know where there food comes from, that they can grow their own food. That fresh and healthy food is fun and it tastes good. Then we try to make a delicious dinner to highlight that and have them taste different items," Schwartz says.

Roosevelt also hosted its annual safety night; the event serves to educate students and their families about safety efforts and providers within the community.

Representatives from the Binghamton Police and Fire Departments along with other community organizations were on hand to talk with students and their families. Watch the story on WIVT and WBNG.
