Kindergarten Registration
Every spring, we hold a special kindergarten registration in each elementary school building. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents and children to meet some of the people they will work with during the school year.
Children must be five (5) years old on or before December 1st in order to enroll for the 2017-18 school year.
Parental identification, proof of age (birth certificate), residency (two forms), and immunization records are required at the time of registration. For more information, call 762-6014 or 762-8114.
These free programs are available for children who reside in the City of Binghamton who will be 3 or 4 years of age by December 1. Various district and community-based sites are available.
For more information, visit the
Pre-Kindergarten Webpage or contact 762-8197
Attendance Policy
The Binghamton City School District believes that an important relationship exists between class attendance and student performance. A student's presence, as well as his/her active participation in class is critical to academic success. To this end, cooperation among all members of the community, including parents, students, teachers, administrators and support staff, is critical.
Absences
Excused absences are defined as absences due to personal illness, family illness/death, impassable roads or weather, religious observance, quarantine, required court programs, military obligations or such other reasons as may be approved by the Commissioner of Education. Any other absence would be considered unexcused subject to review by a building administrator.
The district expects parents to call the school promptly if their child is absent AND provide a written explanation for the absence upon the student's return to school.

The importance of good attendance and what parents can do to help
Showing up for school has a huge impact on a student's academic success starting in kindergarten and continuing through high school. Even as children grow older and more independent, families play a key role in making sure students get to school safely every day and understand why attendance is so important for success in school and on the job
