Student present at Rod Serling DayWednesday, April 25 was the 12th Annual Rod Serling Day in the Binghamton City School District, and fifth graders got to celebrate Serling’s life and legacy at a special event at Binghamton High School. Students gathered in the Helen Foley Theatre to listen to speakers and watch presentations on Rod Serling, someone they’ve been learning about all year.
"He's one of the most famous people to come from Binghamton," said Jill Browne, the Binghamton City School District's Challenge Enrichment Program Coordinator.

His writing and acting always included some type of message to the audience, and that's one reason fifth grade students continue taking a trip to the "Fifth Dimension" through the Challenge Enrichment Program.

"They explore social justice topics, prejudice, scapegoating, mob justice, through watching episodes of The Twilight Zone and this is the culmination where they all come together basically to celebrate Serling's life and work, and the fact, the important fact, that they live where he grew up," said Browne. Watch the stories on WBNG and WICZ.
