On the afternoon of Monday, Nov. 23, the district was notified that an employee at East Middle
School tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. Two employees were quarantined as a result.
This afternoon Tuesday, Nov. 24 two EMS employees tested positive for the COVID-19 virus
through the district’s surveillance testing program. There was no association between the two
cases or any previous cases at East Middle. The contract tracing protocol revealed there were no
individuals at the school building placed in quarantine associated with one case. The other case
may have resulted in quarantining two students. Information regarding these individuals'
identities cannot be released. After receiving the positive results, the individuals were discreetly
notified and promptly left the building.
If there was any person in direct or proximate contact with these individuals outside of the
school building, they will be contacted by the Broome County Health Department and placed in
quarantine, per New York State Department of Health guidelines. The impacted areas of the
building are being disinfected.
Due to the increase in positive cases over the past seven days at East Middle
School, East Middle School will continue with remote learning after the
Thanksgiving break until Friday, Dec. 11th. In-person/Hybrid instruction will
resume on Monday, December 14th.
