There’s a new leader at the helm of Patriot Athletics! The Binghamton City School District is proud to introduce Mr. Jeremiah Johnson as our new Director of Athletics and Student Engagement.
Johnson spent the past five years teaching Physical Education at Ben Franklin Elementary and coaching multiple athletic teams. He served as Binghamton High School’s head baseball coach, and assistant football coach. Now, he’s thrilled to make BCSD sports his full-time focus.
Johnson said one of his top priorities as athletic director will be helping to rebuild local youth sports programs and reconnecting them with BCSD school sports. His goal is to increase student participation in athletics and get kids excited about sports.
“I think if you reach kids young, they can learn the fundamentals that they’ll need to be successful at the modified, JV and varsity levels,” Johnson said. “Participation starts young. If you can get third, fourth and fifth graders excited about sports, and they have a good experience at the youth level, you can retain those kids to play at the higher levels in middle and high school.”
Johnson said he’s looking forward to this new challenge.
“We have some rebuilding to do within our programs, but I think that the foundation is there,” Johnson said. “I want to give our community something they can be proud of. I just want our students to have the best possible experience and opportunities they can have.”
Johnson officially steps into his new position on Monday, Oct. 4.
