The Binghamton City Schools Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization established to enhance the educational experience of students in the Binghamton City Schools by providing additional resources to teachers. The Foundation awards grants to school district staff members for special projects or activities that fall beyond the scope of the district’s operating budget.

At the classroom level, the Foundation helps to fund worthwhile programs, equipment, trips or activities that ordinarily can’t be supported as part of the school operating budget but are of clear benefit to the growth, education and development of students. The BCSF seeks to assist staff in obtaining equipment and materials needed to maximize the educational value of academic programs. Foundation grants are intended to afford staff the opportunity to “think outside the box” when they design their curriculum to help every student realize their full potential.

Since it began in 2008, the Foundation has awarded over $220k for unique and innovative projects. Examples of past grants include:

-Garden Clubs
-Robotics Clubs
-STEM Engagement Programs
-Video Production Studio Program
-Business Etiquette Seminar
-Mentoring Programs
-Bullying Prevention Program

In 2019, the Legacy Fund (Class of ‘89) expanded the mission of the Foundation, providing funds targeted for education around issues of mental health and drug abuse prevention.

In 2021, during the height of the pandemic and remote learning, the Foundation, in conjunction with Dick’s Sporting Goods funded a “Get Up And Move” grant. This district-wide initiative put athletic exercise equipment in the hands of each of the 5000+ students in the district. The equipment was coupled with on-line programming by the Physical Education department that made sure each student had an age-appropriate interactive plan to keep active during distance learning.

One hundred percent of our funding comes from donations. Through the continued generosity of private individuals, alumni, corporations and public and private foundations, the Binghamton City Schools Foundation can help make a lasting impact on the educational experience of district students for generations to come. Your gift can be unrestricted or can specify the arts, health/wellness, athletics or specific academic programming at the elementary, middle or high school levels. Contributions to the Binghamton City Schools Foundation directly benefit district students.
