It's known as a sensory pathway, but it could also be considered a pathway to understanding and inclusivity.
BHS students collaborated to create a pathway for younger students in need of a positive outlet during the school day. The pathway is to be utilized by the students in the pre-K classroom at BHS. The indoor sensory pathway includes a series of guided movements for kids to follow, shown by markings on the ground or walls. As students follow the path and complete the movements, they work off excess energy and develop their gross motor skills.
“A sensory pathway helps the kids regulate their bodies,” Michele Transue, a BCSD speech pathologist, said. “So when their bodies are overstimulated they can go out and do some jumping, hopping, follow the directions, and it helps their bodies regulate to be ready to learn.”
