Recently Governor Kathy Hochul announced the incoming group of Master Teachers for the state of New York. This year 230 teachers joined the ranks of the statewide network of educators. One of those chosen was Binghamton City School District teacher Jeff Sabol. Master teachers are active beyond their classrooms, serving as curriculum and department leaders or members of the district and state- level committees.

Sabol is a science teacher at West Middle School and said the Master Teacher program will allow him access to new resources and a network of skilled educators.
“I have always tried to find the latest and greatest ways of teaching a topic or ways to connect with my students and staff,” he said. “This program will allow me to network and have meaningful time to work with the best teachers out there and bring back what I learn to share with the students and staff of this great district.”

Sabol has been teaching in the district for more than 21 years and said it has been a rewarding experience.

“I could not imagine a better place to grow as a person and educator,” Sabol said. “The challenges are real and the extremely diverse population of students and the equally diverse needs are also real.”
