Governor Hochul announced at a news conference Sunday that she is lifting the NYS mask mandate
for schools, beginning Wednesday, March 2, 2022. The Governor said her decision was based on
the new Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidance that connects community spread and
hospitalizations.
Although individual counties can still impose a mask mandate, the Broome County Health
Department and County Executive Jason Garner have informed districts that they are in support
of lifting the mandate.
In addition, on Friday afternoon, the CDC issued revised guidance which clarifies that the TSA
mask mandate for public transportation no longer applies to public schools.
Therefore, effective
this Wednesday, masks will be optional in all Binghamton City School District buildings and
buses.
Thank you to our students and staff for their diligence and patience as we continue to follow the
guidelines and requirements of New York State and our local health department. We will
continue to support those who choose to wear masks, along with the other mitigating measures
such as testing and social distancing until advised otherwise by the state and local health
departments.
