Masks Continue to be Required

Masks Continue to be Required

We would like to provide clarity regarding the Nassau County Supreme Court’s recent ruling regarding mask mandates. Public schools in New York State have been directed by the New York State Education Department to continue to mask in school. The following information was communicated by NYSED:

“It is SED’s understanding that the Department of Health will appeal the Nassau County Supreme Court decision, which will result in an automatic stay that will unambiguously restore the mask rule until such time as an appellate court issues a further ruling. Therefore, schools must continue to follow the mask rule."

The New York State Department of Health and New York State Education Department indoor masking policy align with positions of several authorities—such as the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention and the American Academy of Pediatrics—that are designed to prevent COVID spread in schools and communities.

We will continue to follow the guidance of the state Department of Education and the Department of Health, and keep you informed of any future changes. We appreciate your cooperation and care as we strive to promote health and wellness within our school buildings.
