SADD Holiday Tree Lighting

BHS Students Raise Awareness of Dangers of Drunk Driving
Posted on 11/23/2021
SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) raised awareness of the dangers of drunk and distracted driving at Binghamton High School's annual holiday tree lighting on Tuesday, Nov. 23. It's the tradition's 28th year running.

This tree lighting ceremony takes place each year to raise awareness during the holiday season of the dangers of drinking, texting, and distracted driving. In the unfortunate event that a person is killed in a DWI accident in Broome County, a white bulb will be replaced by a red bulb to remind us not to drive under the influence.

Attendees at the tree lighting heard from student speakers about holiday themes including community, safety, remembrance, respect, knowledge, justice and perseverance. The talented singers of the Davidge choir also performed holiday songs.

Each year, the ceremony honors former BHS student Katie Titus, who was an active member of SADD when she died in 1996 in a non-alcohol related car crash.
