MacArthur Elementary fourth grader Connor Race knows firsthand that you're never too small to make a big difference. His team, 'Connor's Challenge' completed the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb on Sun., Sept. 11 at Mirabito Stadium. The event is hosted by the Binghamton Fire Department, and has been running twelve years.
It was the second time for Connor and the first time for his twin brother Andrew, who both volunteer at the Town of Binghamton Volunteer Fire Department along with their dad, Jamie. The climb is 110 flights of stairs (2,220 steps) and symbolizes the route taken by 343 members of the FDNY killed at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. The event supports the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, which offers counseling and support to families of firefighters who die in the line of duty. We are so proud of Connor and his family for raising awareness and funds for this important cause.
We're also Patriot proud of our administrators, MacArthur principal Lori Asquith and superintendent Tonia Thompson, for 'stepping up' to the challenge alongside Connor.
